"One ought, every day at least, to hear a little song, read a good poem, see a fine picture, and, if it were possible, to speak a few reasonable words in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful which God has implanted in the human soul" -Goethe

Too Long!

Wow, its been way too long since I've updated! I did have a finish in that time(finally) and have made some progress on my other WIPs. Here's Pelin Tezer's "Muska" that I finished.

It's actually a little more colorful IRL but I guess my light was not too good. This one was a fun stitch. I also made progress on Ink Circles' CDT, AAN's An Important Flower, Metta and of course my Beatrix Potter:

Promised Picture

Well, I finally got around to taking a picture of Paula. If you'll recall, Paula is what my daughter named the chair that she got such a good deal on at the consignment shop. It's at my house now and I decided to use it for the time being as my stitching chair because it is so comfy.

I've really been on a roll with my stitching the last couple of weeks. The SAL for Beatrix Potter is coming along nicely and I made alot of progress. Here's Ms. B as of the end of February:

I also made good progress on Pelin Tezer's "Muska"

and started a SAL for AAN's An Important Flower. This one I'm doing on PTP Highlands with HDF Exemplar Moon Called Sea 1 over 1 on 32 ct.

Got A New (Old) Chair!

My daughter loves to find deals and she found a good one on an old chair in a consignment shop. It's a nice chair, just needs a little upholstery work sometime down the road, but all in all it's in fine shape. Last semester she used it in her bedroom in her apartment, but this semester she rearranged the furniture and doesn't have room for Paula (I forgot to say she also like to name everything) so Paula came home for awhile. Paula is a very comfortable chair so I thought, "Hey, why not use Paula as my stitching chair?" It's working out great. I don't get as tired so I can stitch longer. I forgot to take Paula's picture so I'll do that next time. I did, however take some pictures of some things I've been working on. Remember I'm a slow stitcher but here they are.

This is Edward 1874, a Bristol Orphanage sampler. I've started it on Vikki Clayton hand dyed linen in cream with Vikki's Midnight Madness silk fibers. This one is alot of fun to work and I'm loving the variegation in this Midnight Madness silk. The original sampler was done in red and of course my first thought was to do mine in red. Then I thought I would do it in black, but when the variegated red and black came out I thought it would be a great way to have the best of both worlds. I think it is working well so far and I would like to use it on something else also. I don't know what yet but I'm sure I'll find something.

The photo on the right is my start of Pelin Tezer's "Muska". It is done on Silkweaver's "Jamaican Sunset" 32 count lugana with Vikki Clayton's hand dyed silk in Dragon Droppings with extra sprinkles. This one is loads of fun also and an easy stitch because of the repetition in the pattern.

That's it for the strands today. Keep working them.

Welcome to My First Post

I've been thinking about starting this for a while now and I've finally gotten around to it. This will be a place mostly to talk about and share my love of needlework. I'm sure, occasionally a few of my other loves will show up too (such as my family, dogs, photography etc). I have been doing needlework for about 33 years. My grandmother taught me with a little embroidered doily and I've been doing some kind of needlework on and off ever since. Sometimes there have been longer lulls in putting my stitching away and getting it back out, but something always draws me back.

I will say right up front that I am not a fast stitcher. I do keep a rotation going, but it takes me what seems like forever to finish a piece. If anybody else out there is like me, take comfort that even if you just do a strand a day or even a strand a week you will eventually get there. Just remember it's not a race, it's for your enjoyment. So come sit by me.

I will start out with a picture.

This is my Beatrix Potter that I'm working on. I'm stitching it on Vikki Clayton Hand dyed linen in Kodiak and using Vikki's silk HDF in Fishpeppers. It's a fun piece to do. I really love working with silks and hand dyed linens.

Ok I guess that's enough for my first post. Hopefully tomorrow I will have more pics and more news.
